Hi: My wife suggested I write a blog about my preparations for the upcoming Transplant Games in Pittsburgh. The games take place from July 11-16. After my first kidney transplant (my Dad, Steve donated) in 1999, I heard about the Transplant Games from Linda Small, the Executive Director of the National Kidney Foundation in Southern California, but more important an all-around great person. She said I should go to Orlando to take part in the festivities. As a guy who played competitive sports… Continue

Thanks for the nice comments! I have to get more photos printed and then figure out why the costco software isn't working so I can import the photos onto my computer. I wish I was more tech-oriented or knew people who were to help me here.
The girls loved attending the games. They want to attend the AUS world games, if we can do the fundraising. I know you shared about a fundraising group of transplant recipients. I will have to see where that info is..or please give me the URL again of how to access that group?
We wouldn't mind moving closer to Stanford, but it is so expensive there. As it is, the girls and I must move soon to an apartment or somewhere, as our home is uninhabitable. I pray that our insurance company ok's us to get monies for the rental because of our home's loss of use.
We are going through a rough time, but I know that the future will be better.. Susan
How's it going? Yeah, it was cool seeing everyone again. I'm trying to get a hold of Linda or Tom for more information about the world games. Not sure how that works and they briefly spoke about it.
About the triathlon in San Francisco sounds like fun. You mentioned at the meeting about the team having some spots open. How soon would I need to commit? I’ve been jogging, but only about 1 or 2 miles a day. The 5k was the first and longest race I have ever entered. I will admit, I didn’t really train for it. The 10k would be a challenge, I will message Bill for more information on this. Talk to you later.
Thanks so much for all your help at the games. What a bummer about the company that didn't get the swim gear to everyone in time-- not your fault at all!
I was so glad Shivan did as well as she did, medaling in all her swim events. Poor Lindsea got hit in the head by a miner's helmet (long story there), so didn't even participate in two of the events.
I would appreciate chatting with you about resources in the L.A. area, as the girls and I will have to either move near UCLA this Fall or near Stanford. We're going through a real rough time.See the blog.
Blessings, Susan
Take Care, hope you are well! :)
Yes on to SF.
Good to be home.
Talk to U both soon.
We added two Canadian Runners for Next year.
Might need some more Open Water Swimmers?
Bill.
I don't compete elsewhere - this was actually the first time I've ever competed in swimming so I was pretty darn nervous. I'm going to learn to use the start blocks for Australia next year!
I was more inspired by people like the heart transplant fellow that finished the 500 yd. Wow. I am just truly honored to be a part of this group - as cheesy as that may sound. It was so great to meet other healthy active recipients - I was feeling pretty alone up until now. You keep up your good work too! Delete Comment
It was good to be in the bike racing with you at the Transplant Games in Pittsburgh. Good job on the Gold Medal! Hope to see you again in Madison or maybe Australia!?
