If you are on the transplant waiting list, please use this space to write about your experience:
I have been given this amazing opportunity to grow with my son. We swim, bike, walk, play and before transplant, I could barely make it to the bathroom without oxygen. I am doing things I didn't think I would be doing. My son and I used to lay in bed while he watched cartoons until I had the strength to get up. And though he was only 2, he knew somethng wasn't right and never left my side. Now, he says, " mom, let's go!". He knows. He used to ask, " let me see you scar".
What do you do for a living?
I graduated from Ohio State and am a Registered Dietitian. I am the Clinical Nutrition Manager at our local hospital and Renal Dieitian at our dialysis center. I am a mom and wife, which are both hard work, but well worth it.
About Me: Please use this space to tell the community about yourself and your unique experience with transplantation:
My experience with transplantation was short-lived. I was only on the waiting list for 5 months and 1 week. Total shock when I received the call. I was making scrambled eggs for my son at 10 in the morning. I told them I needed to shower first and then was on my way. All went smoothly and I was on my way to recovery. I spend alot of time running youth programs for our church along with my husband. We volunteer our time for many different organizations: Life Connection of Ohio, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Church. Anywhere we can raise organ donation awareness, we are there.

Hi Tonya.... Welcome to my world as I am hoping to be welcomed in to yours.
I am a seven year survivor of a single lung transplant. I was on the list for a double but if you read my story you will see why I only got the one.
I read your list of meds and just wanted to tell you to watch your side effects of CellCept very closely. Also your Prograf. Both became a BIG problem. The Cellcept with my overall health. Colon very irritated and the Prograf started changes in my kidneys. I am now on Rapamune and Azathioprine instead. Not that those drugs will cause the same problems for you, I sincerely hope not. I do know I feel better than I did.
I hope your recovery is going well. Each day at a time, and God's grace will get you through. xoxoxo ♥ CINDY

Tonya, I appreciate the sympathies for my brother. It is something I never openly talked about at the games until this year because he was unable to be a donor due to the manner in which he died (car accident - drowned). As a recipient, I already receive enough support, concern and praise... adding the loss of a loved one on top of that would only enhance those aspects of the games.

Just E-mail me the pictures, post them to a website or send them to me on a disc in the mail and I will be sure to include as many in the Team Ohio video as possible. I won't begin production for another 2 weeks due to work commitments and the fact that I will get better editing software after visiting UD. My brother's video is not one that I created, but I have imitated it with a slideshow for a good friend...

Well I guess that goes to show that we did not get to know each other enough. I hate that people from Team Ohio did not know others from our own Team. We will have to use this opportunity to get to know each other before Madison, WI in 2010!

Hello Tonya, how are you? I saw that you are from Ohio so I thought I would leave you a comment. I would love to get to know you better; so add me as a friend if you would like. Have you ever went to the U.S. Transplant Games as part of Team Ohio?
